1983 OMC 3.8L Electrical Problem

Greetings all. I am a new member and first time poster. I recently purchased a 1983 Searay 270 Sundancer with twin OMC 3.8L engines and stringer outdrives. The boat sat on the trailer, untouched for about 6 years before I bought it. On both engines, I have changed oil, oil and fuel filters, belts, plugs, plug wires, points, condensors, distributor caps and rotors. With the plugs out, I am able to freely rotate the cranks. I pulled the distributors and primed the oil pumps for several minutes to lubricate the running gear. I have drained 110 gallons of old gas from the tank and run it through my old truck.

In the outdrives, I drained upper, intermediate, and lower gear cases and refilled. I replaced both water pumps. I also had to replace both outdrive transom seals as they were dry-rotted.

Problem #1: Now that I am ready (I hope?) to try to start testing systems for the first time, I installed four new deep cycle batteries. I turn on the Perko battery switches...turn the ignition key to "ACC" for the starboard engine, guages come to life, engine tilt motors work properly, engine cranks smoothly (no fuel line hooked up yet), outdrive lowers quikly, but raises VERY slowly and only with manual assistance from my son. With him lifting with a little pressure, it raises smoothly and completely. Is this an electrical issue? A bad solenoid? A bad lift motor?

Problem #2: When I turn on the Perko switch for the port engine and turn the key, again guages come on, bilge blower comes on, running lights and VHF radio come on, but...no power to outdrive, engine tilt or engine starter. I have checked all fuses on the fuse panel and all test good. Suggestions on where to begin?

Thanks everyone.

I don't have any knowledge on your issues but I will say that I think marine starting batteries would have been better choices than deep cycles. While deep cycles will work, they aren't designed to deliver quick bursts of high current power and then be recharged. Their lifespan may be shorter than starting batteries in this application.

I had an issue with my transom motors I cleaned all the contacts on the cyliniods and a few new wires and it works fine.
