1983 Thunder craft Flamingo Royale speedometer vaccum question

Sorry moderators don't know if non repair question or not
i had to replace the vaccumm hose it was rotted had many cracks and it was not hanging out the stern like it should , the speedometer does work i bench tested it. my question is how much is suppose to hang out of the stern, there is some hold downs still on the stern that gives me an idea but not good enough. the boat has a 470 merc 170hp

There is supposed to be a pitot tube pickup at the bottom of the stern which sticks down below the boat an inch or two. Here is what you are looking to attache the pitot tubing to: http://www.iboats.com/Pitot-Tube-Ea...8815857--session_id.947379345--view_id.133574

one last question now that i know the set up on the stern for the speedo do i have to get a certain one for my style of boat or just one that's universal
