Like a tach for your dash? Or a diagnostic/tuning temp setup? Easiest would be an induction wire around a spark plug cable. Best would be splicing into the harness.

A tach for my dash, what is the process for splicing into my harness at the dash, which wires to splice into and what wire goes to the guage?

There should be a grey wire in the cable leading to the control or dash, whichever. That grey wire is the tach signal wire. There should also be a black wire, probably grounding the control. The black wire is also used as the ground wire for the tach. Wire gauge really isn't all that important. Set your tach to 6 pulses (12 poles).

If your tach is illluminated, the light wires connect to the boat's running lights.

Ok also on my tach is a 12v stud, which wire hooks here? THE main red wire from the harness? Also thanks so much for your help.

Pick up the 12V source from one of the purple wires. That way the tach is "ON" only when the key is turned on (as when running).
