What is the best way to remove the 3 bolts that hold on the thermostat cover?
They seem to be frozen and I do not want to snap them! Thanks, Rich

Many post on the forums about just this very thing Rich.

Unfortunely, no easy way to get them out. I don't think stuff like PB Blaster or penetrating oil will work cause the stuff just don't get into where you need it to get into. And being where they are just makes it that much harder to get to. I would like to offer an easy way out but unless you pull the head and lower pan, just no easy way to it.

Some guys will cut holes in the lower pan so they can get a "straight at" shot at the bolt heads. But again, if your sure they are froze in, even this won't help much.

One thing I can offer, if none of the bolts come out or maybe you have one that may break, get a dremel tool with a cut off disc and cut the heads off the bolts. This will allow you to remove some of the t-stat cover and have some of the bolt left to work with. Take your time. Try not to bust off the bolts flush with the block. Then your really up the creek.

One thing you could try if indeed they are froze is to apply heat "directly" to the bolt heads with a pencil torch or small propane tip until they are beginning to get cherry.A portable oxy/acetylene rig would even be better if you have access to one. Then, let them cool down completely and try removing.Sometimes the heat transfer from the bolt head to the shank of the bolt will break the scale bond and once cooled down will allow removal.Otherwise....good luck.
