1984 115 lower unit interchangeability

I was hesitant to create a post asking this question as I know it gets asked a lot but I couldn't find definitive answers anywhere and I looked for several days. It's pretty straight forward my lower unit had a major come apart drive shaft bearing went out and cracked the housing etc...... I need a new one what years will fit?

I've heard everything from any year inline 6 90hp - 150hp will fit but I also heard that's not the true as they changed after 78 or so???

I've heard/read so much I don't know what to believe.......... any help or insight would be appreciated!!

Yes there are many " experts " and just as many " tall tales " too.------------There is a website where you click on the 1984 part # for the lower unit.----It then spits out all the years that are the same.------Or if you could walk over I have a bunch that will fit too.--------Look on ------boats.n**---to find what you need.

1976 and up 90,115,140,150hp's as they all have a 2:1 ratio. Some other earlier will work but its easier to find a 76 and up
