I rebuilt the carbs on my v6 black max a couple of years ago. Last summer I cleaned them again. Later in the sumeer I took the boat on a big lake with big waves. It appear that one or more of the floats stuck ( fuel running from the front of the engine) . after putting the engine in full trim down and reversing it and going to forward several times, the flow of fuel stopped. Now thinking back to several years ago I had seen it suck fuel really badly when I was way out on lake superior. That time I only guessed it was a float and tapped the carbs with a .. umm well it was a rock..... anyway the sucking of fuel stopped. ( again fairly big waves) .....

Last weekend we were again on a rough lake and the fuel sucking started. ( as well as a lot of smell ) ..

Ok .. so I can safely say that my carb floats stick. When I had them apart to clean them I did notice that the one float seemed to rub the housing. I had thought of trying to shave the very hard foam with a razor blade but it just did not seem like the right thing to do. ( like tapping on the carbs with a rock is a good thing LOL) Would ordering new floats fix this ? should I try shaving them ?
