After much diagnosing and replacing stator, trigger, coils, plugs, and cleaning carbs, the boat finally started. I took it to the lake and it would throttle in neutral but would not idle. So I adjusted the idle stop and it began to idle fine. However, when I increased the throttle it would bottom out like it had too much air and not enough fuel. I then adjusted the throttle advance stop and it would go a bit faster but still bottoming out when approaching WOT. Im thinking the top carb is not working properly. There is a consistant drip of fuel coming out the top carb air intake. The seat and needle looks clean and without defect. They were all soaked in acid to clean gum after sitting for 10 years. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Sorry I dont have rpms because my partner did not pay attention to them when driving. It does idle close to 1000 rpm.

If you gently squeeze the primer bulb, and fuel flows out of a carb, you have a problem there.

What about the basics?
Compression
Link n sync (timing and linkage setup)
cable linkage setup.

Hope it helps

you are correct. a gentle squeeze does lead to a leak. I think that with a little time and patience I can work out the link and sync issues. However, do you know which order the carbs kick in as the rpm and fuel increases. Also, any clue on the cause of the leak. The fuel drips out of the small valve that looke like a ball point pen tip without the ball.

Thanks

The needle and seat could be defective, or the gasket under the seat could be bad. float level could be wrong.

some gaskets can cause that also.

All the carbs kick in at the same time. All that linkage adjustment is detailed in the sync procedure in the factory manual. Get one.

When you go into a carb, have a new gasket kit in hand. don't reassemble it until you verify that the needle and seat's are good (viewed under high magnification) and the float is good and set right.

It ain't rocket science, but it is detail work.

hope it helps

I plan to remove the needle and seats again to inspect under mag. What exactly am looking for....coloration, wear, marks???? Thanks.

Wear and nicks.

Usually they are fine. Removing the seats will allow you to get any debris under them that might be holding the needles open.

There's a little gasket in the center of the carb that's critical. Replace it every time.

Foam floats are junk The hard plastic ones live forever.

hope it helps
