1984 40HP evin. manual tilt problem

Tilting the motor (manual) is getting very difficult. I've greased everything in sight. The one thing I'm starting to suspect is the center tube where the steering cable goes through. One of the grease fittings there will not take grease. It's not the fitting itself, because I've taken it off and cleaned it. I'm just not getting grease between the tube and the motor. Any thoughts as to whether it makes sense that it's the tube, or should I be looking elsewhere? I also wonder about that piston-type thing in the back. I've greased that heavily too.

From the looks of that tilt tube I'd say that's where the prob is along with the bushings.

Would it make any sense to torch some heat on the parts that the tube passes through? Maybe if that expanded a bit I could force some grease through. I'd like to avoid trying to pull things apart, and I have a feeling it won't come apart anyway.

Try the heat and see what happens. You've nothing to lose.
