my Q-jet does not have a fast idle screw, or the little tang that the screw goes in to. It makes it tough at start up until the engine is warm. I have electric choke and adjusted per manual. But unless I stay in neutral with the throttle reved up to around 1500 or so she just wants to stall. Are marine Qjets not supposed to have a fast idle adjustment, or is my carb missing something?

For safety reasons boats do not have a fast idle. It is so you dont try to put the motor in gear with it screaming away at 1500 rpm

Start motor in neutral with throttle advanced slightly for a few minutes to warm it up... untie the lines, bring motor to idle, then go boating

Either carb or choke needs work.

I thought I remembered something along those lines. It runs fine after it’s warm. It’s just really stubborn when it’s cold. If the boat ramp is busy people get pissy about me taking too long. But I get the safety idea. Boats don’t have brakes.

Is the electric choke even working?
Some testing may be in order, adjusted don't mean the element is working correctly. From cold, just turn the key to the on position, don't start it up. There should be power at the wire that attaches to the choke. if there is, wait a bit, see if it opens on it's own. If not, the element is no good. If the power is not there, you have to find out why it's gone away.

If you are having problems on cold starts are you giving the throttle a pump or two and leave the throttle on fast idle? Then before turning the key on, check the position of the choke plate on the carb. If it is not closed it needs work. If it is closed, now start the engine. You cannot make this check on a hot/warm engine. Choke adjustments are made on a stone cold engine.

ok. I’ll recheck that the choke is set up and working right. Thanks for the feedback.
