Hello, my first post. :)

I've been searching the forums and haven't found the info I need to correctly diagnose my problem. The boat I received was sitting for 3 years so when I got it home I saw it had gas (smelled good) so I turned it over just to see if it would run. It did! I turned it off pretty quick.

I tried it a couple weeks later and it didn't start. Thinking I gummed up the carbs I rebuilt both carbs. Still nothing. I checked both spark plugs and they weren't receiving spark. I checked the spark at the wire, nothing. I checked the resistance through both wires and everything was good. I checked the voltage at the coils and nothing.

I came on here and saw that the yellow/black (mine's yellow and almost a silver?) so I disconnected that and still nothing. I checked the 20A fuse and there's no resistance there. I'm pretty much stuck there. I know I have to check the stator and it's connection to the rectifier but I'm having problems locating it. Besides checking that I'm leaning toward a power pack? This is my first shot at marine repair so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Sorry for the softball question, but what does DVA stand for on that link? Also, it mentions a timer, but I don't see that on the Ignition diagram at shop.evinrude.com.

I assume DVA means direct voltage adapter?

Ok, disconnected gray/yellow kill wire (it's not black/yellow apparently). Motor didn't start.

Disconnected yellow and yellow wires (stator to rectifier) and retested. Motor didn't start.

Checked the stator resistance, brown wire to brown/yellow. It came out at 553 ohms.

Next it says check the DVA output from the stator. It should have a reading of at least 150V or more from brown wire to brown/yellow wire while connected to the pack. If it's connected to the pack, how do I test that? Do I have to splice in to the wire or is there a way I can test that without splicing in to it?

*edit* I found a black/white and white/black wire. It looks like it's coming down from where the stator is. It came up at 38.6 ohms. The next piece of of instruction asks me to check the output from the timer base. I stayed connected in the same black/white and white/black wires - is that correct? It only had .01V. I don't think it's correct.

Like above the next step asks me to check cranking RPM and then the orange wires from the powerpack as they're connected to the ignition coils. Again, how do I test that? I saw on one site that they use piercing probes - is that's what's normally used?

Thanks!

Well I picked up a power pack from the Evinrude dealer. I put that on, connected the two adapters, bolted the ground wire on and still nothing. Is the stator the only thing left? What else could I check? Thanks.
