quick history:

I found this 16' Ozark w/ 50 hp merc ob a couple yrs ago sitting oun next to a barn uncovered. a mess. last reg was in 04. 120 lbs on each cyl. I replaced power board and stator. fired right up. cleaned fuel tank, tore down and soaked carbs. (did NOT replace gasket kit ), new line and bulb from tank to engine, replaced water pump.

engine starts, idles. (starts more easily if i give the primer bulb a few pumps first)

took her out on the water for the first time this weekend and after a good warm up and some slow runnin, I pinned it and she revved right up nice, the boat planed up sweet and after about 1 minute I noticed a marked drop in the rpms and in the power. I shut her down and restarted a few minutes later, and after that I could not get full rpms.

when I got her hm I noticed that one of the thin black wires that connects the #2 coil to the #3 coil was broke and just hanging on by the last bit bit of wire casing.
pulled plugs and #3 looked dark and nasty unlike the other 3 which looked good
put a new connector on

so my question is this:

if in fact that wire decided to brake in that first minute of running at wot, would I notice such a marked difference in performance?

im fairly new to boating mech by the way
