1984 50Hp merc probs

i run the engine with the flusher on and i can shift into gear and rev it up and it idles great, but as soon as i stick it in the water it will idle great but then i shift it into gear and it dies every time even in reverse. dont know what is wrong with it and would like some feedback, thanks

There are many causes...Poor compression...worn out labryth seals..dirty carb..poor spark to 1 or more cyl's, plugged exhaust.<br /><br />TMD
