1984 70 HP Evinrude (3cycle) bogs down or dies completely when you try to "

Overall my 1984 70 HP Evinrude performs very well cruising, idling, trolling; however,it completely boggs down and even dies out if I try to "hit it" quuickly accerate from a standing stop or coming out of low idle. This is particularly noticeabke when trying to get skiers to plane out. <br /><br />Appreciate you valauable advice and suggestions..All the Best.

It sounds like the idle mixture is just a little lean

When was the last time your carbs were rebuilt?

The mixture screws are on the carbs, but before you get in trouble buy a manual

i'm having the same problem W/(89 RUDE O/B 40/2) so my first move was to clean the plugs & W-D the holes. i then cleaned oil tank and replaced with fresh gallon. will be taking it out this afternoon and return with further info. i'd like to hear more on idle mixture & mixture screw such as what happens when you addjust these screws in either direction?<br />PS if you know the mix that you run best on lets hear it
