i was having problems with the lower unit so i pulled it and brought it to a friend. he replaced the reverse gear and the clutch dog plus all gaskets and seals.i picked the lower unit up and was reinstalling it had both the controls in neutral and the lower unit in neutral and could not get shift shaft to line up for nothing. So i took the shift cable loose so i could see if it was in the cables or lower unit . well that didnt work still had to manually shift either into forward or reverse to get it to mate up that last half inch , by doing this i would either get forward and neutral with no reverse , or reverse and neutral with no forward . Ive been reading alot on the forums and from what ive read it sounds like a shift shaft problem or something in the lower unit . Any and all help appreciated and thank you in advance
