i can start the motor by jumping the starter selonoid but i get nothing from the ignition switch not sure how to test it to see if the switch is sending a signal the switch works the choke ok but you hold (push) down on the key to activate the choke and then when i turn the key to the start or crank position the choke kicks off and the motor won't crank

Is this a new problem? Or, have you just bought the boat? You must hold the key in while you turn it to start in order to choke. Just pushing in and letting go will only snap the choke plate closed then open.

First make sure the dead man or neutral interlock switch is functioning. If they are then when you turn the switch to start, there should be power at the "S" terminal.

Well, If you had ever taken one of those switches apart, you would see that the contacts are actually onlt thin copper plates on a backer board. As you rotate the switch, various contacts are energised. If corrosion has compromised the connections, then there is a good chance that the switch will not work. It is suspicious that choke which works when in run position will not work in start position.

As I said before, With someone holding the key in start position, chek the "S" terminal on the switch for 12 volts with either a VOM or test light. If you can not easily get to the switch, then test at the neutral interlock switch on the engine--opposite the starter, below the carbs. If no voltage there, it is a good bet that the switch is bad. However, before replacing the switch, check the yellow wire on the engine terminal board and at the switch for breaks or a loose connection.

To replace, buy a standard 6 terminal push to choke switch. Sold right here at iboats.
