I swapped a 1984 Evinrude 150 from one boat to another and the idle is now too high on the motor. It starts up fine but wants to idle at 2000 RPM. If I press the choke it drops to 1000 RPM. Any ideas on where I should begin? Thanks
if it was ok before the swap.I would look at the throttle cable and be sure it is allowing the throttle lever to go back far enough to lower the idle, assuming its a different cable ,the adjustment barrel is probably set different from the other boat
Disconnect the throttle cable at the engine and see if it still idles too high. You should manually hold the linkagainst the idle stop with the cable disconnected. If idle now seems ok, then the cable needs to be adjusted. If it idles too high with the cable disconnected, then idle timing, link&sync and final idle adjustments need to be made.
I have had an issue with my link and sync on my 1984 70hp. Make sure you check all of the linkage for any play and check to make sure that the throttle is returning to the throttle stop screw
