Howdy Sasfms1.

You need at least an Owner's Manual and probably a Service Manual, too.

Plug gap is .030".

Good luck, and welcome aboard. :)

Re: 1984 evinrude 50

I have a 50 johnson 1981. Every spring I pour a can of cleaner in the gas on the first time out.
You could have a several little problems but it depends how how much work you had done in the past.
I set my idle screw a half turn to correct rough idle but I had my carbs re-done some years ago along with changing the fuel pump last year I have little else to ponit to. The fuel pump is something you can do with no problem and if it never been replace it's not a bad maintance idem.I always place new plugs in every spring as well. I notice a while a pitch gas line that was leaking gas so I replace that as well. A good mechanic well tell you the carbs may not ever be the problem but I wanted then done for routine maintance.
Anyways unlosen the hex nut and turn the set screw a little but remeber this, When placing it in gear no hard engagement should occur. My motors old so it high a bit higher than the spec book require setting.

A good mechanic who works on old motors is the best choice but try sea foam cleaner first.

Good Luck
