Been working on this in my spare time , which
isnt much. Motor is not running because of electrical problems, which I am working on. The engine MAY have overheated. Anyway, I replaced water pump, thermostat, presure valves, and I wanted to make sure it all worked before I got the engine running. So I turned the engine over.
It never started but, with the muffs on I did get a stream of water out of the pee hole...but when I pulled the thermostat cover it was all dry.
My question is: Is there a way to see if the head is restricting the water flow without pulling the lower unit or pulling the head? Ithought about connecting the hose to the pee hole, pulling the thermostat, and seeing if water came out....but I didnt want to shoot water in the wrong place.

Pulling a lower unit is not very difficult. I would suggest that you pull the lower unit and clamp a garden hose on the water pickup tube (where it inserts into the water pump housing) and remove your thermostat and flush the engine and check for flow.

Thanks jimd,
I wish I had done that before I reinstalled the lower unit! Pulling the unit took me quite a while
because of the difficulty of attaching the gear linkage at the base of the motor. Do you think the idea I came up with would hurt anything?
