I did a search and found some results on this topic but not really sure what I am going to be looking at. The T/T have been working fine for about 6 months or so. I did have previous problems but had a friend work it out. Then one day I was out on the water and the T?T motor would just start running and the motor would raise on its own. (Maybe it is a ghost)So I just put it back down and continue fishing and no big deal. Then it did the same thing about 2 hours later. I decided it was time to head in anyway. Then when I got back in the motor would not raise up at all. It will go down just not up.

With regards to some other posts. I have found that this could be a relay switch or something like that. I checked out the switch on the console and that wasn't it. So where can I find the other one. Or what else could it be. I ended up releasing the pressure and lifting up by hand which was a real back breaker.

Thanks for any info you may give...

Tazman,

Follow the wires from the trim motor to the relay box. i believe the 84 still had a seperate box.

Open the box and switch the relays, see if the engine now goes up but not down.

Re: 1984 evinrude tilt trim prob...

Well today I went back to the boat and I can't seem to figure out where the wires go when they reach the engine. I followed both ways. From the T/T switch on dash board it goes to the fuse box and can't really figure out which one it is no the way out and then from the T/T cylinder the wires go right into the engine and I can't seem to figure out where they go from there. Is there an easier way to figure out which one is which? And bringing it to a mechanic is last resort...
