1984, J90 Fuel pump problem

I have a 1984 J90 MLCRD and have been having some problems with rough idling and low power at WOT.. I stripped the carbs and cleaned them, (did not reall see any problems there). fuel lines all look ok but still seem to have a high power issue at WOT. This motor has been fitted with a mechanical pump (438556) and I noticed this pump is spec'd for a 30 - 55hp motor.. could this be causing a fuel starvation problem at high end? Or could the pump just be bad?
