This last weekend I was out fishing and my outboard automatically raised itself out of the water. I could hear what I thought to be the tilt trim motor constantly running only cutting out for a few seconds here and there. I could not lower the engine back into the water. When I pushed the tilt button down the sound would cut out but the engine would not move. I checked up on her yesterday at the place I dry dock the boat and its still doing the same thing. I think I need to replace the tilt/trim motor assembly, part number 28 on Shop.Evinrude

http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=bf6ad09c53cead335fcfd8a6471c0f7f

This assembly is where the constant noise is coming from. Am I on the right track? If so, is there anything I need to know before I pull the assembly off? I have I think one of those Celec repair manuals on my boat so I can probably figure it out when I get down there. I just don't want to make the trip and not be prepared when I get there, or waste money buying the wrong part. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

You could replace the T/T and still have the same problem if the problem is a stuck relay or a short in the wiring.

www.outboardbooks.com

get the real manual, 40 pages on the T/T system and just for your engine.
