My 1984 Johnson 115 starts fine in the driveway with the earmuffs on and idles okay, too, but when in the water, it will start okay, run for a few seconds then die. I have to keep starting it until finally it will idle okay, then I will be able to shift forward without it dying. This is happening with fresh gas and the correct 50:1 mix, and with new plugs.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ron Cole

Get yourself a squirt can of fresh premix and give the carbs a little shot of fuel and see if you can keep the engine running like that. If ya can, you've got a fuel problem. Could be carb(s), fuel pump or air getting sucked in some where in the fuel line.
Do you have a engine manual?

c/6

Hooty

Thanks Hooty for giving me a direction on this problem. Sounds great! I'm going to start checking all my fuel lines then move on to the pump, if it comes down to the carbs I'll most likely have someone rebuild them. It's like the one area I'm always afraid of, for fear of screwing it up.

It's a plan.

Thanks again,
Ron C.
