I have a 1984 Johnson 15 HP, up until last week it ran great. I went to start it and it wouln't start.
After asking for help from you folks I found the Cam Roller bracket was broken, I replaced the bracket and also tried to rebuild the carb.

Now it's hard to start and when it does it runs great for 1 minute then dies, I pull the plug and they seem wet. When I exchange them with a dry set, it hard to start again only to die after another minute.

History:
I had the motor for about 6 month, changed the impeller, gear oil and plugs. Haven't had any troble until last week, I have about 25 to 30 hours use in that six months.

Sounds like it is burning up the fuel in the carb, then running out.

Failing fuel pump, air leak or restriction in fuel supply lines or tank pickup.

Try pumping the primer bulb to see if that keeps her running. If so fuel supply is your problem.

You may also want to check to make sure your float to see that it sits level when you hold the carb upside-down it could be floading out if your plugs are wet.

Pumping the ball does keep it running, Should the ball stay hard after the motor has started?

I'll take the card apart again and check the float, I just put a new float in and adjusted it the best I could per the manual, but didn't have the acual float tool.

Jerry

If pumping the ball keeps it running, I'd think that the gas tanks pick-up tube (or filter) is clogged.
If not that, you can easily check the fuel pumps operation by removing the hose at the carb, pull the cord and see if gas comes out while it's turning over.
