1984 Johnson 25 Is the solenoid?

only clicks...I go straight to the starter and she turns over fine...So is it easy to say that it needs a solenoid? I have checked and cleaned post to starter solenid both sides and Neg ground any other conections I should check?

Yep if all connections including the batt + and - dont get the starter turning its most likly solenoid replacement time.

How do you check to see if the solenoid is bad? Can I jump stright to the sol. pos+ side to check with the key on??

Two large wires on the solenoid opposite sides one goes to starter, one out to batt,You can take a short same Ga.wire and bypass the solenoid,touch the wire to each side,or disconnect the power wire from Batt side and touch it to solenoid out side to starter.

If you have the key on it can start when jumping
the solenoid.
