I am in the process of getting my motor rebuilt, the Oil was not mixing with the fuel properly and burnt a cylinder up. The mechanic recommended I get rid of the Oil injection system and switch to a One flow system that you mix the gas and oil. Can anyone give me an idea of what I should do? Should I leave it or do what the mechanic says, he told me the old oil injection systems really suck. Here are my motor specs, 1984 Johnson V-4 90hp, Model J90MLCRD. Thanks for the help.

84 was the VRO1 pumps.... and they suck from what i read. not sure if you can replace it with a VRO2 pump, hopefully some experts may chime it.

i recently got a 1986 120HP with VRO and have had no problems with the VRO yet, personally i love not mixing...... but if i had to rebuild beacuse of malfunction i would probably go back to pre mix.

one last thing the replacement VRO pumps are $350-400 bux. if you convert to premix and regular fuel pump will work for about $100.

cheers, let us know which way you go.
