1984 Johnson Stalls on Accelerations SOMETIMES

I have a 1984 Johnson VRO70 thats stalls sometimes when i accelerate. It lasts for about 5 minutes of starting then stalling on acceleration. Then it goes away and runs great for 30 minutes or so. I brought it to a very reputable shop and they rejetted it and replace the VRO pump. Next time I took it out it ran flawless for and hour or so, then the same problem. It seems if I disconncet the fuel line from the motor right after the promlems, no fuel spirrts out. I pump the ball, plug back in and runs good (most of the time) Your help would be appreciated cause my kids get mad at me when there stuck in the water on a tube while if fiddle with this.<br /><br />THANKS, STEVE MATSON

Welcome to iboats Steve.<br /><br />We don' want the kiddies upset,I know how that is. <br />From your description, it sounds like the problem is for sure fuel related. It could be one of a number of things but I'm gonna guess you may have a problem with the anti-siphon valve. All it is is a spring loaded check valve in the elbow of the fitting coming out of the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel line, remove fitting from the tank, disassemble it, remove the ball and spring, reassemble and give it a try. <br />Get back to us and lettus know how it worked.<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

I have a 1988 Johnson 225 with similar symptoms. I don't know if there is a check valve in my fuel line. Any other ideas? I checked the fuel line connections and seem good.

could be a simple air leak in the fuel line that is starving the engine. or a ****y fuel pump maybe??

The anti-siphon valve is in the fuel tank fitting where the line connects.<br />And yes, it could be a fuel pump or an air leak. I said in the beginning it could be any one of a number of things<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

Well, I have two 6 gallon fuel tanks. And it happens on both tanks. I bought a new fuel line and im gonna try it this week to see what happens. The dealer had already replaced the fuel pump.<br /><br />Thanks, Let ya know. Any other ideas?

Grab a new primer bulb while you're at it, even if yours is new. Try to get an OMC one... Iwould also consider taking it back to the shop that did the work and see if they can fix it right, as I'm sure you spent a lot of bucks for the VRO and Jets, and of course, labor..

When you say primerbulb, I bought an Attwood fuel line with an inline bulb. (samething?)

Same thing. I'm not a fan of aftermarket fuel lines/bulbs/connectors.
