Hi All, I have this Alpha 1 lower unit up on the bench completely disassembled and I still cannot get reverse gear to engage correctly. With the gears installed in the lower unit, I can manually turn the shift shaft and engage forward and neutral but there doesn't seem to be enough "throw" in the bell crank to get reverse to engage (I'm not even feeling the clutch dog start to to engage reverse). I purchased a new spool assembly even though I couldn't really see anything wrong with the old one and that has made no difference. I'm seeing other postings talking about a 12 degree range on the shift shaft to go from fwd all the way to reverse...I have much more than that and I still cannot engage reverse. Not sure what to try next. The bell crank (that rides in the spool) doesn't look bent. I was thinking maybe I don't have the bell crank engaged in the spool slot properly but it seems to be locked in ok (I can't pull out the prop shaft). If this were a worn clutch dog, I'd at least feel some attempt to engage reverse and I don't see that happening. Visually, the clutch dog looks ok.
