Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and to boats. I just bought an 84 15'9" Tidecraft with a 1984 115 Mercury outboard. I was told the carbs needed to be rebuilt. Looks like it has been sitting since 07. Before I put money into the carbs I want to see it start. This is what I've done so far, removed all the plugs and put a few drops of 2 cycle oil in each chamber, turned motor over a few times and then reinstalled all but one plug to check for spark, no spark. I checked all six plugs same, no spark. Any idea where to go from here? Any other advice on what I need to do to the motor before running it? As I said, I'm new at this so any advice would be most helpful and appreciated.

Thanks, David

David, You can go on the Dolphinmarineservices.com website and look up the troubleshooting procedure for your ADI Ignition. First check is to see if the ignition switch is shorting out the spark. You should have a black/yellow (orange wire on the older motors) wire connected to the switchboxes. This is the killer wire. Disconnect it and see if you now have spark. If so, the ignition circuit is bad.
