1984 Mercury 35hp water intake grate

I was told today that part number 72849A1 for my 35 merc is obselete. I found reference to this part number here . Do you think that since the part number is the same it should fit in my motor? If not does anyone have any thoughts on where to start looking for this part?

My motor serial number is 6490506.

You will find P/N 72849A1, item 7 under Gear Housing (Drive Shaft) and it appears to be still available.

Thanks for the help. So just talked to Crowley and its no longer available even though its listed as cross ship on the site. Any ideas on where I could find a water intake grate for a Mercury?
