I Have read the ignition trouble reshooting sticky and I have come to a point where I need to ask for additional help from you experts...?thank you Don S for the great information.

Engine 1984 OMC 3.0 OMC

Timing seems correct?when #1 cylinder is at TDC the distributor is pointing at Plug 1 and the firing order is correct according to the manual.

The cap, point?s condenser, rotor, wires and plugs are all new, replaced befoore i got the boat and from what i have observed replaced with the correct parts.

Symptom no spark using a spark tester ?. or on any of the plugs.

I have 10.8VDC on the positive side of the coil when it ignition is in the run position.

I have checked continuity through the coil and it?s good.

I have also checked resistance through the coil and it measures at 1.4 ohms.

All grounds seem good.

The only thing I noticed on the points is for some odd reason they didn?t seem to match up correctly like whoever put it in bent it, they are clean no burn marks. ?not sure if I should just replace this or if I?m possibly looking at the coil or something else?.

There is a high side and a low side of the points as the distributor turns..?I take it high side they should be open..and low side should be closed ?maybe just set incorrectly?

I?m at a loss here kind of an engine newbie so please be gentile with me :)

Thanks!!

Check the dwell with a dwell meter to see if the points are set correctly.

Are you saying the boat has never had spark since you got it?

Not that it affects your "no spark" issue but having the engine at TDC and rotor pointing at #1 spark plug wire, means you have a 50% chance you got it right. Has to be at TDC on the compression stroke.

Measure the voltage at the coil with the points open and points closed. When they are open, you should measure a full 12V at the coil. Should be closer to 9V when points are closed.

Check your dwell with a dwell meter. You can check it without the engine running by just cranking it and reading the meter.

If you didn't put the parts on I would assume there not new. Never believe anyone that is trying to sell you something. Replace the condenser.Seen many parts out of the box that didn't work.
