1984 OMC motor

My father in law just gave me a 1984 Sea ray boat with an OMC motor. I know from what he has told me it is a V6 and runs about 180 hp and has hot heads and a hot cam. The problem is the carb was exchanged for the wrong one, so I am trying to find the right carb. He knows it had a 2 barrel carb, but all I have found in my searches is a 3.0 V6 140 HP carb reman Rochester. Is this the right one? I thought I saw somewhere that had a 3.6L OMC 185 hp motor listed, but know I can not find it. Does anyone know the right carb for this motor and possibly a part number and where to buy it.<br />Thanks

I made a mistake, it is a 1984 Sun Ray boat. Does anyone know a website to find original part numbers, or what carb I need?<br />Thanks

You have an OMC 3.8L V-6. That's a Chevy 229 (Which is a Chevy 305 less 2 cylinders). The 2V version is rated at 170HP, the 4V version is 185. I know the stock 4V carb is a Rochester Q-jet, but I don't know what make the 2V is, my shop manual is with the boat, which is of course in the shop!<br /><br />A quick google turned up this site:<br /> http://www.sterndrive.info/id121.html <br />Looks like pretty good info.<br /><br />Good luck..<br />Tom

I have the 229 also. It has a 2 BBL Rochester carb on it. I can get the specs on it if you want for you. I just got the boat monday, so I am still figuring it all out. I took it out once already, it ran pretty good. Felt very fast compared to my old 12 foot plywood boat with a 9.8 horse mercury.

If you could email me the specs to skonphsvb@hotmail.com that would be great. I am having a tough time finding a replacement carb. The one for the 3.8 is tough. It has a carb from a 440 dodge right now and it is terrible. It floods like crazy.<br />Thanks

I have an 84 Sea Ray with the 3.8L v6<br />Rebuilt it when I bought it, added an Edelbrock MArine 4 BBL and Alum intake<br />Runs great !<br />Do you guys have any problems with your OMC 800 Drive line?<br />I seem to have a noise , "Clatter" but the gear oil looks good, no chips or water<br />Maybe just the ball gear noise?<br />Also- the tilt gear seems to be leaking water into the small tilt gear system,.<br />I put a new bushing and seal on it 4 years ago.<br />OMC says to use 30W engine oil in the tilt gearcase.<br />You guys have any trouble.<br />CC: me at<br /> tpatwil@yahoo.com
