Thought I would start a post of my project boat.
1984 Chris Craft 214WA Scorpion.
I found this boat on CL about two months, said it was solid and ready to go. Well after viewing the boat it wasn't as solid as the owner thought. It had been in a field in North Texas for about ten years waiting for its new owner, me. It was a rare scorpion in the fact it had a 305 w/ a jackshaft and stern drive, most scorpions I've seen are the unliked open transom outboard version.
Plans for the boat, new floor and layout, new stringers, new transom, fish box and cooler, redo the T-Top, redo the center console, add a livewell, dump the 305 merc and stern drive, twin outboard bracket, twin 150 hp yamahas, paint and polish.
The boat had some storm damage and had the T-Top ripped apart and center console damaged. I have an aluminum welder so that's not a big deal to me.
It was named "Powder Monkey" because it carried the charges to sink old naval vessels off the coast of FL to create artifical reefs, then ran as a fishing boat out of miami running offshore.
After putting four new tires and rims on the trailer I crossed my fingers and towed it home about forty miles. All went well. After it got home, I realized the floor had some soft spots and the transom was weak. I cut the rear cap off and noticed the wood was toast.
The Powder Monkey as it sits now. Much demo already completed.
What I saw after I cut the transom cap off. Nasty!
Floor cut out, gas tanks leaking from corrision, messy messy foam.
Tanks removed, cleaning out foam.
Transom Skin Removed, hard to believe that's suppose to be two pieces of 3/4" Ply. Not much left.
More updates to come.
