1984 searay seville140 shifter

I just purchased this boat and cannot figure out how to have prop disengaged when starting. The manual says there is a button to push on the bottom side of shifter .I tried pushing in on the side of shifter to no avail???
Cannot see any button. This is on a 1984 searay seville 140 four cyl. Any help greatly appreciated.

My 1983 shifter is a pull out to disengage the shifter. Try pulling the lever out from the mounting plate at the center.

Post a picture of your control. Hard to tell what was used on your boat.

Thank You for your expertise that is exactly how this works by pulling the handle out to disengage.
