1984 Yamaha 2 stroke 25 hp

Have removed retaining ring (more easily than expected) in order to extract the transmission gear cluster. Find myself with a 'Bearing Carrier Key' which fell out.

Just cannot see where this thing (Yamaha Part 90282-04010-00) goes back in. Have -of course- looked a the exploded diagrams in the Yamaha manual, but still at a loss.

Can anyone provide details on the proper reinstallation?

keys fit in slots
should be a slot in the carrier and on the housing for keeping the carrier from turning

That's a very interesting suggestion (insight). I'd assumed that it went someplace to keep part of the gear cluster (under spring tension) from rotating on the propeller shaft. By 'housing' you mean the actual casing of the lower end, I assume? I'll increase the lighting, in the basement, today, and see if I can find the matching slot in the casing. Thank You.
