it wont go up or down very far from the bottom up or the top down it moves a few inches from extreme ends.
the motor changes pitch as it stops moving. The 2 small pistons seem to work the best up and down but slow , it seems to be main piston fluid isnt getting in or out fast enough or completely.
any other ideas, the unit seems to be full of fluid??
i had this problem before i replaced o rings in main piston and was using trany fluid with the new motor/pump assy. i am using 2 cycle oil now .
Are there any other valves that regulate fluid movement other than pump and ball bearings in main piston?? thanks for any help!! d

There is a check valve in the port-side piston. If you search the forums i believe somebody posted a graphic containing the mercury troubleshooting matrix. If you don't have a Mercury service manual, the seloc books have pretty good breakdowns of the system.

I'm no expert in the hydraulics but i have the same system and it is spec'd for ATF and in emergencies, motor oil. I've never seen anything that recommended 2cycle as safe to use.

I looked up your system in Seloc online because i'm bored.

"Only Automatic Transmission Fluid should be used in the power trim system. However, in remote areas or in an emergency, a substitute can be used. SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 oil rated SE was recommended in the past by the manufacturer for earlier model systems.

Therefore, these oils should be a workable substitute until the automatic transmission fluid can be obtained.

Once the transmission fluid is available, the system MUST be flushed of the oil before putting the system into service. This can be accomplished by simply draining all the oil from the system. "

I would check the port side trim cylinder check valve and the manual release valve - and get that 2 cycle out of there.

i put 2 cycle in because someone on here recommended it . it is supposed to be faster and not rot the seals.
I had the same trouble with ATF , atf was the only oil put in after pump/motor replaced. no 2 cycle before that! ???
