1985 25hp johnson lower gearbox shot

i have recently came into a 1982 25hp johnson outboard and the lower gearbox is shot. can anyone tell me which year models and which hp ranges will interchange. i know where i can get a 35hp outboard will this work?<br />thanks for any help

Is it a 85 or an 82?My manual shows the 73-84 20-25hp lower units being the same.I think it was 85 when they introduced thru-hub exhaust for those motors.The 35hp had it prior to 85.

its an 82 model outboard

The 73 is different. 75 - 84 and 85 - 88 commercial will fit. General all after 75 with nun thru hub exhaust. Some can have the 4 splined driveshaft, but they can be swapped easily, slides out, just by removing waterpump.

just cranked motor this morning. been setting outside in the weather for about 4 or 5 years. fired right up and ran like a champ with only having to clean out fuel valve. now just need to find a foot.
