I'm looking at an outboard and they say the lower oil seal will need to be replaced. Assuming this is the only problem, how easy is it to do?

Did they clarify which seal is leaking? He was talking about the lower unit/ gearcase seals right? The only safe way to make sure you dont have a leak is to replace all of the seals at the same time. I just did them on my 78' 85hp. You have to take the lower unit off of the motor, and replace the seals around the propshaft as well as the ones under the water pump, and the shift rod. I dont know how inclined you are, but if you can figure out how to remove the seals from around the propshaft and the driveshaft, and push new ones in, its cake. Also dont forget to replace the washers behind the oil fill and drain screws. Iboats sells the seal kits, you can look them up here.
