1985 50hp shift rod

had a nother post about steam coming out of motor while running to be on the safe side i pulled lower unit to check water pump ! well it was okay!now i cant get the shift rod ajusted back where it was if i go one way i got reverse and the other way i got forward is there any special way or trick to ajusting this really need advice book dosent say alot about this !
please i really got this one messed up !

update wasnt that hard after all had son move shifter really slow and iwas back at the shifter rod as he mved it very slowly toward forward i spun the prop by hand until it started to grab then did the same for reverse and it worked out great that easy !love the site ?
spent the day on the saginaw bay in the rain it was awesome !
still reading and always learning its seems to be a never ending story !!

Too windy for me to go on the Bay Thursday....went to Sanford Lake instead and caught some bluegills. Thunderstormed for an hour but it was a nice day. I have a force 50 too 89 and i was sure to make it before changing the impeller. Was not sure if your 85 is the same but I checked it by spinning the flywheel and moving the throttle back and forth until it seemed about in the right place. I got the book for my model off ebay and also found that this button near the fuel pump must also be depressed at neutral. Going to Wiggins Lake Monday I think...perhaps we will see each other some time trolling....

thanks for the reply ! will be heading to cass river to take boys bass and walleye fishing inbetween rain drops tomorrow !have a smooth ride monday its suppost to be excellant weather !
