1985 60hp 3cylinder bearing end caps

I've encountered another (minor) problem, I hope. My Mercury manual tells me to tap the end caps from the crank end bearings. Top and bottom caps. Fortunately the top bearing cap did come off relatively easily but the bottom one is reluctant to budge. Any ideas/suggestions ?

Thanks

Sometime you have to walk them off by tapping one one side the go 180 degrees and tap other side..

The cap should have puller holes threaded into it, you can bolt up a harmonic balancer puller or equivalent, with the center bolt bearing against the center of the crankshaft. Be sure to pull evenly.

You never want to pry on the 'ears' of the end cap as they are rather fragile when treated in this manner and tend to break!

HTH & G'luck gettin' that pesky bugger pulled!.......ed

Okay thanks, I'll try a puller. Hopefully it wont pull the bearing from the crank at the same time otherwise I'll still have the same problem.
