1985 85hp after wot for min. buzzer goes off until in neutral and has hard pressure

i have a 1985 85 hp force and when i start it in a bucket at a idle no water comes out two holes . but when i put in lake . there is a hard spray and hot too. but no buzzer and runs fine , but when wot for about 30 sec. buzzer goes off and then put in neutral buzzer goes off . but the thing that is not normal to me is this hard spray and hot to touch. but after watching videos on this motor almost all the discharge water comes out exhust above prop. so checked thermo stat in a pan of water and it opened but not 110 degrees , maybe around 150-160 degrees. so i planed on changing that but i have feeling that is not the problem also cleaned carbs thinking maybe plugged jet and running lean on a cylinder at wot and then getting . but that don't explan hard discharge out the two holes on back of motor instead of going out exhaust. any thoughts ? Is the a hose that runs out exhust maybe plugged up. thanks . josh gelsthorpe

As far as I know 150 deg is correct ..where did you get 110 from ??

Sounds to me like you have a leak of water between the exhaust chamber and the water channels ...the exhaust pressure stops the water flow ..best take the cover off the exhaust chamber and check for corrosion .... Dont panic if its well corroed .I had two holes about 1 in x 1/4 in mine ...filled with expoxy putty ..fine ......it may be the stainless exhaust baffle plate has corroded.....I hope all the bolts come out OK !!!

i got 110 off this site on another thread and the t-stat says 110. but i am going to replace for my on security. but if you can tell me where to find all this stuff in the motor or lower unit. I am a deisel tech on tractor trailers (commerical) so this outboard stuff is kind of foreign to me LOL. but a learning process. so any help and instuction would be greatly thankful. I am going to pull lower unit now and inspect and go from there. But I think you on the money with water flow redirct because it sprays out those back two holes very very hard. But correct me if i am wrong , The water that is discharge out the motor should com out the exhuast snout and a little will come out those holes out the back .

After i pulled lower unit and inspecting i found that water pump appered to be half bad and probly only pumping half the water supply i took some pics tell me what you think ?????? so I will be going to boat shop first thing in the morning and getting a water pump and thermostat , Do you think i will have any problems getting parts ( I live in Atlanta , GA. ) .


well i was tryimg to load them need help . i am trying to load them from pics i put on my computer.

I don't know if you've found the pump and thermostat yet but I ordered a pump kit on July 2nd and received it today:

With shipping it was about $62.
