Re: 1985 90 ho johnson turns over but will not start
Ok thank goodness no one replied to this thread.....because....
I hereby re-instate my newbie status. With all the work I've been doing on the resto project I found myself forgetting one little detail on trying to start the outboard......I didn't attach the kill switch lanyard!!! How dumb am I for wasting a couple of hours on troubleshooting. Looking back its kind of funny now.....Since I haven't mounted the remote box yet, I was moving it around and positioning it between things to keep it upright as I was starting the motor. It just so happens, sometimes the kill switch button would be depressed and I'd get a spark. Other times I wouldn't be depressed and I wouldn't get a spark. It wasn't until I took a break and came here on iboats to go back to basics....while doing that I opened up the "Top Secret" file and went to the "why it won't start" thread. When I read the words "kill switch" it immediately hit me. WHAT A DOLT!
On the positive side, my kill switch system has been fully checked out. No matter what I try, I can't start the boat with the switch removed!!!!!
:-D
