Hello.
I am brand new to boating and just bought a 1985 Aquasport Osprey 170 with a 1988 Mercury 115 HP motor.
The shift control is giving me fits and I cannot tell what the make and model is, I'm assuming it's Mercury because of the motor.
The previous owner resplined it so the neutral position isn't where it normally would be. In order to disengage the prop, I have to find neutral and push the throttle lever to the right (#1 picture), it takes 2 hands to do this.
Once the motor is started and I'm ready to go, I push the throttle to the left and it engages the prop.
It also has 2 different trim controls and I can't tell the different (#2 and #3 pictures). From what I can see on the motor there is a single shaft one of the levers controls and the on either side of that, there are 2 smaller ones the other level controls; I'm not sure what the difference is.
I have a some questions if you don't mind.
1. What is the brand and model of the shift control - I've looked at some Mercury sites provided from another forum and I don't see this one.
2. I really want to replace the control with someting easier to use and I see there are a lot of "how to" guides, but without knowing the make/model of what I'm replacing, I don't know what to look for to replace it with. Am I over analyzing it?
3. What are the 2 different trim controls for?
Thank you,
Jon
