Well I was out fishing the other day and it start pouring down rain like it has been the last few days straight in central Florida...I started heading to the boat ramp got almost there and I started loseing power...Slowed all the way down at the ramp it shut off couldnt start it back up ...So I called my buddy that works on my boat and said I was bringing it over...The next day he called me and said there was metal shavings all in one of the cyclinders...So looks like I blew it...He is going to take the power head off tommorrow after work and see how much damage there really is...:( he said what proablly happened was the needles got clogged up in the carbs and didnt lube the engine enough and blew it....he said that is common with the older engines.....I'm just stuck...because i either have to get the power head rebuilt or buy new powerhead....And it aint cheap! I just got dont putting new starter, stator, and power packs :(

i'm located in Polk County Florida does anyone know of someone local that does machine work pretty cheap? or do you know where I can find a rebuild powerhead for a decent price with warranty?

I mean after i get it rebuilt ot get new powerhead i could turn around and sell it and not even get as much as i put into it out of it that is pretty sad!

Wow that sounds just like what happened to my 1986 115 inline six the other day. Just slowed down and stopped 4th cylinders dead 20# compression. Mechanic told me the same thing probably something in the fuel delivery and didn't get enough lubrication. I had only owned the boat 1 day and used it for 45 minutes. Now i have the same decision, lotta money for new powerhead or to fix this one. But another motors alot of money too. But one things for sure Boat,Car, Motorcycle you rarely ever get out what you put into it. I have a motorcycle right now I have probably over $11,000.00 in I'd be lucky to get $6000.00 if I sold it.

I hear ya...see if I do go with newer motor and its fuel injected I will have to change controls :( and I dont know what im getting into as in what will go wrong new on that motor ...atleast with this motor i have had it long enough i know what all it needs and stuff like that...like i said i just spent like $700 on parts for this baby ...its either new drop on powerhead which runs like $3800 plus labor :( i think...or rebuild with cost like $2800 that is EVERYTHING rebuilt carbs, powerhead, serviced lower unit, fuel lines changed all that...idk yet i will see what he tell me tommorrow night when he pulls the power head off...it only takes him like 30mins to take the powerhead off and check it out...

Yeah, same here if I change motors I probably end up having to change all kinds of other stuff to make it work and then my SS prop probably won't fit etc etc. I think I'm going to tear it apart and try to determine the extent of the damage and choose a course of action from there. But I really think I would like to stay with this motor if possible. Good luck.
