The title says its a 1985 bomber bass boat. Fiberglass. 15foot. The information plate is unreadable. I need to find out if a 115 hp johnson seahorse v4 is to much motor.

Most likely it's rated for 60hp

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention it had a 70hp evinrude on it. I pulled The head off because it ran rough and found the top piston was ate up from ball bearings. I guess the main bearings are out. Needs rebuilding.

Looking wont tell you anything, serious testing of the wood is needed, at that age, unless recently replaced, it is sure to have some hidden rot. If memory serves me it is a glass boat and at that time wood was used for structural support, once it rots, total replacement is needed.

easy way to check the transom. get two heavy buddies nicknamed tiny, trim the motor up fully, both jump up and down on the lower unit.

there should be zero transom flex.

dont worry about hurting anything, a good transom will take 1500# or more of load

additionally, if there is an aluminum band-aid plate on the outside of the transom, assume its shot.
