This is the second day, I'm the proud owner this 18' BW outrage. But proud or not, I've got a few problems. The teak is a desater and will need to be cleaned, wood puttied and a large dose of trak oil.The inside of the boat needs heavy duty elbow grease and the bumper in front has come off. Someone told me today to mix bleach and grease cleaner together and the dirt will come off easy. He said he d:'(oes it all the time to his 29'century but I have reservations about mixing chemicals. That type of cocktail sounds like an explosion.
Please help!!!
Thank you,

Try Starbrite 3 step, key-z.

Part 1 is the cleaner, step 2 the brightener and step 3 is the oil. Always worked well for me.

Use no putty. If it is too rough, sand it.

Go to continuouswave.com, the Classic Whaler site and ask for advice on restoring the teak. You will probably be told to use Cetol to seal it. I still like the Starbrite Golden Teak Oil.

That is a great boat. Congratulations. 8)

Thanks for the pick me up JB. I know it is, but just looking at it gives me hives. The teak wood is cracked about 11" on the gunwale from someone that tighten down on a screw. The wood had been previously lacquered.

Since it was parked in Florida sun the lacquer peeled back and it looks bad. I was thinking about removing the wood and resurface. Is that possible without a lot of trouble?

Yes, key-z, that is what some Outrage owners have done. Others have replaced the teak gunnel boards with the white ones used on later models or made new ones of teak..

What seat/leaning post arrangement do you have? Both of my Outrage 18s had the captain's chairs, but some had the teak reversible pilot seat or leaning posts.

Though some people prefer to varnish their teak I think it always leads to your problem. . . cracking and peeling. Go with oil.

You will get lots of advice (most of it good) on continuouswave's moderated discussion area and the reference section is loaded with good info.

The seats are captain swivel chairs. It has a bench seat the with of the boat with a back rest. I like to bring things back to it's original form. I guess because I couldn't afford it when it was new so I'll make an effort to spruce up the teak or replace it, if it's not to costly. Thanks for your advise JB.

By the way, someone told me that collinite would be a good :}product to use on the fiber glass. Are you familar with this product?

Collinite? Nope.

I use Meguires heavy duty oxidation remover and a random orbit polisher.

If it is oxidized very bad i would use DuPont rubbing compound first.

Be careful mixing bleach with anything! You could poison yourself by releasing chlorine gas. Soft scrub is a great slime and grease remover for rubber, vinyl, etc, it works great on gel-coat too but use a light touch so you don't knock down your gloss. I've had great luck with Meguires carnauba wax on gel coat after cleaning and polishing as needed. If you really get into detailing your boat you can have a diamond when you're done :)
