Hello all,

I am trying to diagnose a steering problem with my 3.0l omc stringer. The steering system seems to be a tru course design. I had the boat out for my first time this past weekend, and immediately noticed the boat will not turn right at all.... turns left fine, but as soon as the outdrive gets to 0 degree... the steering wheel binds and the outdrive will not turn right. I noticed immediately upon looking under the helm, the tru course cable seems to be slopped up and unwinding and winding itself in a binding matter out of all the grooves... Back at the engine, the cables seem to be riding in the groves correctly.

I have the SELOC manual and plan on using that to diagnose things, but it always helps to get another persons perspective on things.

What are some things I can do to fix the slop and regain proper cable winding in the helm?

How should I diagnose the issue of the outdrive not turning right at all?

Thanks in advance

Hey guys, I got the new steering cable in.. things went fairly well.. was a tedious process doing it myself.

But, I have a concern.... The steering locks when the outdrive is tilted about 40% of the way up from full down. When the outdrive is tilted down past 60% from full up... the steering is smooth as silk.

While replacing the steering cable... I cleaned up all steering gears (tru course design)... including the one on the outdrive... replaced the intermediate steering shaft with a new one...

This is my first boat... and I am just wondering if boats are supposed to lock the steering when tilted up a certain degree?
