Hi all,

I have the potential opportunity of trading my 1998 130 for a 1985 225HP for my 1979 Wellcraft V20. I've been looking to upgrade in power so I can get more speed to get to the fishing spots this year on Narragansett Bay. Looking for input on how significant the fuel consumption will change going V4 to V8 engine, as well as on the 1985 225 itself.

I'll go through the full engine check as recommended in various places to ensure it's in good shape, and I am mechanically inclined so can maintain it myself as needed. Just want to make sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot.

My 130 is a fine running motor, but I can only get about 25MPH out of it on the V20. I also have a kicker for fishing, so not as worried about low rpm consumption, but interested in other folks experience.

The 1985 225 is a small bore looper V-6 similar to what you have now and is a gas pig!! I would try to find a newer 1995 and up 200 or 225 engine as they are a little better on fuel. If you can find a 1992 and up 175 Faststrike or Intruder 60 degree engine that will be your best all around motor for speed and fuel as it is lighter than the 90 degree 200/225hp (80lbs lighter) and about 5 lbs lighter than your 130.
