1985 Evinrude 25hp Pull Cord Replacement

Pull cord broke on the water yesterday, luckily it cranked on that last pull and I made it to the dock without it cutting out!

Looking at the parts diagrams, there is a handle (#26 on the Rewind Started diagram) and a starter rope (#15 on the engine cover diagram). I don't really see how the handle and rope can come separately, but I went ahead and ordered both so I wasn't missing any parts.

Can anybody provide guidance or basic instructions for getting the pull cord installed?
