Hello troups! We had our second rain of 2002 today so I'm at the keyboard. I'm looking at
little aluminum boat with a 1985 Evinrude 28spl.

Is this the plain Jane version of the 35 or is it
a unique motor? Any adverse history on these
little motors? Been a long time since I owned a
small outboard. This thing looks like an 18 or 25.

Thanks in advance for any and all comments :)

get the model number and serial number. Post these and someone can tell you what it is.

look down the posting list for "Yamaha 50 deal or not" in one of the replies someone tells you how to find out what year and hp your engine is. Hope this gets you back on the water.

Oh, and don't forget to put the plug in.

That SPL designation means only that this is the bare bones, entry level version of this motor.Shear pin gearcase, same old 25/30/35 that you got in the 70s with the exception of the primer. All in all not a bad motor.
