Re: 1985 force 85hp outboard
It leaves me incredulous to hear that Seloc doesn't even have one good photo showing the control cables!
Anyway, First: do your control cables have the quick connects or are the ends just plain 10-32 threaded? If they are only threaded, you will need to buy the quick connects and thread them on about 1/2 way.
The control cables go through the lower cowl along with the fuel line on the right front--(opposite the starter motor)
The shift cable has a small quick connect and goes on top. The throttle cable has a much larger quick connect and goes on the bottom. Route it behind the black oil recirculation hose. Both quick connects snap over their respective ball ends on the engine. About eight inches or so down the cable you will see a grooved ferrule crimped on the black or red cable sheath. On the timing/carb advance tower you will see a square fitting . The groove sits on this fitting and the top of the fitting is swung over it and clamped with one small screw. Shift is similar.
Since the throttle cable is pre-loaded, it is much easier to connect it at the tower THEN connect the ball fitting.
Forgot--Since the throttle fitting is so much larger than the shift fitting, thread it through the cowling first--otherwise it won't fit
